The Piner Prospectors will head out on the road to challenge the St. Vincent de Paul Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Wednesday, Piner made easy work of Healdsburg and carried off a 12-1 victory. The win continues a trend for the Prospectors in their matchups with the Greyhounds: they've now won three in a row.
Mialynn Membrilla made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three doubles, and three RBI. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Piner got a massive performance out of Genavieve De Mauro, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Those two hits gave De Mauro a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ava Parra, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4.
Piner always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Healdsburg only posted an OBP of .269.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Vincent de Paul). They blew past Santa Rosa 19-2 last Thursday. With that victory, the Mustangs brought their scoring average up to 7.8 runs per game.
Makayla Bignardi was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Those hits were her first of the season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
In other batting news, Johana Stone was a standout: she got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four RBI and two runs. Ava McCarthy was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
St. Vincent de Paul now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Piner, their record now sits at 4-7.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Piner has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .477. However, it's not like St. Vincent de Paul struggles in that department as they've averaged .473. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Piner's way against St. Vincent de Paul in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Piner made off with a 12-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Prospectors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
