While the Booker T. Washington Tornadoes couldn't quite beat the Westwood Christian Warriors on Monday, the three-point margin was a huge improvement compared to the 40-point loss they were dealt last Saturday. Booker T. Washington fell just short of Westwood Christian by a score of 79-76. While losing is never fun, Booker T. Washington can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 418th, while Westwood Christian is ranked 207th).
When it comes to explaining why Booker T. Washington lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jahmal David. Despite the final result, he scored 37 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points David has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Tyler Wright, who scored 12 points.
Leading Westwood Christian to victory were Ethan Taylor and Michael Vilmenay. Taylor dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds, while Vilmenay went 9 for 17 from beyond the arc en route to 31 points and 4 assists. Taylor is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. William Nadaskay was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Booker T. Washington has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season. As for Westwood Christian, their win bumped their record up to 10-4.
Booker T. Washington will head out on the road to face off against Miami Beach at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Miami Beach knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four contests -- so hopefully Booker T. Washington likes a good challenge. As for Westwood Christian, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Pinecrest Prep at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Pinecrest Prep focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 last Wednesday.
