While it was all tied up 21-21 at halftime, The Bacon County Raiders were not quite the Pelham Hornets''s equal in the second half on Friday. Bacon County's tough 43-21 defeat to Pelham might stick with them for a while. Bacon County lost against Pelham in their previous head to head back in October of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 47-24 score last time.
Despite the loss, Bacon County still got an impressive performance from Travion Richardson, who rushed for 115 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries. Richardson is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last six games he's played.
Ken Williams had a dynamite game for Pelham, rushing for 131 yards and four touchdowns on only 14 carries. Another player making a difference was Den Johnson jr, who rushed for 109 yards and a touchdown on only 14 carries.
Bacon County's defeat was their sixth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 4-3. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 13-1 Johnson County and 8-1 Clinch County (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 62.9% over those games). As for Pelham, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-5.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Brooks County the next time they take the field. Bacon County will head out to face Brooks County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while Pelham will host them at 7:30 p.m. on November 3rd.
