AAAA Region 5 recap Oct. 3, 2012
LaGrange moved up to 84 from 122 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in AAAA Region 5. A 31-14 win over Shaw helped the Grangers improve their standing.
Sandy Creek extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Fayette County, 55-14. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
Sandy Creek's dynamic duo of Cole Garvin and Demarre Kitt proved tough for the Tigers to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Garvin threw for 198 yards and two touchdowns and Kitt had 63 yards receiving. Justin Sumpter helped Sandy Creek's passing attack out by catching three balls for 53 yards.
Dan Harris was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 61 yards on nine carries as Carrollton defeated Fayette County. Teammate Jarvis Terrell added to the ground attack by rushing for 59 yards.
The Patriots' Garvin and Kitt have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading AAAA Region 5 in both passing and receiving yards. Garvin has thrown for 888 yards this season, while Kitt, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 16 catches for 304 yards. The Trojans' Trey Chivers leads the league in rushing yards with 362.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Troup County takes on Sandy Creek. The Tigers are currently in fifth, while the Patriots are in first.
Carrollton led the league in scoring this week after putting up 66 points on Columbus. Harris in the win.
