Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Shafter walked away with it. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 win over the Tehachapi Warriors on Friday. The Generals haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Cassidy Torres was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over nine innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two RBI.
Torres wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Paulina Huitzacua, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Shafter pushed their record up to 19-7-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Tehachapi, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-12.
As of now, neither Shafter nor the Warriors have any future games scheduled.
