The Buckeye Central Bucks fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the Cardington-Lincoln Pirates on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Pirates by a score of 47-45. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Buckeye Central of the 52-40 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2020.
Cardington-Lincoln was led to victory by Jill Bertke and Abigail Hardwick. Bertke scored 11 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks, while Hardwick scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Hardwick is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last five games she's played. Another player making a difference was Madison Caulkins, who scored five points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Buckeye Central dropped their record down to 6-13 with that loss, which was their sixth straight at home. As for Cardington-Lincoln, their victory bumped their record up to 13-9.
Buckeye Central will head out on the road to square off against Upper Sandusky at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Upper Sandusky will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Buckeye Central surely won't give up without a fight. As for Cardington-Lincoln, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Columbus School for Girls at 7:00 p.m. on February 20th.
