AA River Ridge recap Oct. 3, 2012
Salem extended the longest winning streak in AA River Ridge this week by beating Fleming, 31-6. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Spartans.
Salem took down the Colonels 31-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Hidden Valley's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Chad Frazier threw for 18 and one touchdown and Jacob Bowen had 18 yards receiving. On the ground Walker Brand chipped in 301 yards.
Nate Atkins made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Titans bested Bassett. The 6-foot-0 sophomore recorded one fumble and grabbed one sack.
Hidden Valley's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Titans feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Nic Ratliff has thrown for 412 yards and four touchdowns this season, while Jake Kite has 12 catches for 198 yards. Brand leads the league in rushing with 503 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Christiansburg takes on Pulaski County. At the moment, the Blue Demons are in second, while the Cougars are in third.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Cave Spring takes on Steve Magenbauer's team. The Knights have allowed 88 points this season, while the Spartans have given up 65.
Christiansburg and Franklin County played the most hotly contested game in AA River Ridge this week, with Christiansburg eventually emerging with a 31-28 victory.
