It was a good run, but Cactus unfortunately witnessed the end of their nine-match winning streak on Wednesday. They came up short against the Estrella Foothills Wolves, falling 3-0. The Cobras were not able to make up for their loss to the Wolves from their previous meeting back in October of 2024.
While Cactus had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 20 points in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 25-20, 25-20.
Laila Long paced Cactus' offense, picking up 11 kills. Long got some help from Addison Martin and her 13 assists. Martin was also a major player on defense: she and she shared the team lead in blocks, finishing with two each.
Estrella Foothills got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Gabby Coronado out in front who had 18 assists and five digs. With that strong performance, Coronado is now averaging an impressive 12 assists per game.
Cactus' defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 15-3. As for Estrella Foothills, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-5-5.
