Apple Valley has gone 9-1 against Burroughs recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Sun Devils will take on the Burros at 3:15 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Apple Valley has seven straight wins, Burroughs has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Wednesday, Apple Valley made easy work of Hesperia and carried off a 12-3 victory. The Sun Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by seven runs or more this season.
Makaylee Cerf spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Apple Valley got a massive performance out of Brooke Johnson, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI Johnson has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Buzzard, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
Apple Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .474. They are 9-1-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Burroughs' offense. They lost 11-0 to Oak Hills on Wednesday.
Burroughs saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Taylor King, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Burroughs' loss dropped their record down to 5-17. As for Apple Valley, their win bumped their record up to 14-9-1.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Apple Valley hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .405. However, it's not like Burroughs struggles in that department as they've averaged .334. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Apple Valley got the 'W' in their previous matchup two weeks ago against Burroughs by a conclusive 21-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Sun Devils since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
