The Central of Clay County Volunteers will face off against the Brewbaker Tech Rams at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a five-game winning streak alive.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Central of Clay County walked away with it. They blew past the Panthers 43-12 at home on Saturday. Central of Clay County has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 15 games by 22 points or more this season.
Central of Clay County's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ramyah Billingsley, who scored 11 points. Mia Lindsey was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Meanwhile, Brewbaker Tech was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Beauregard 50-19 at home. Given Brewbaker Tech's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while Beauregard is ranked 305th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Brewbaker Tech to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jillian Baine, who scored 13 points along with three steals. Baine hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Erin Martin, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Central of Clay County has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 24-5 record this season. As for Brewbaker Tech, they pushed their record up to 17-14 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Central of Clay County have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 20.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Brewbaker Tech struggles in that department as they've been averaging 35.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Central of Clay County ended up a good deal behind Brewbaker Tech in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, losing 62-45. Can Central of Clay County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
