St. Mary and Carlisle County are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Vikings will be playing at home against the Comets at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. St. Mary is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, St. Mary came up short against Paducah Tilghman and fell 4-1. The Vikings have struggled against the Blue Tornado recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost meeting.
Ashton Spurr spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, St. Mary saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brett Haas, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, while Carlisle County put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Hickman County. The Comets put the hurt on the Falcons with a sharp 11-0 win. The Comets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.
Carlisle County let Koltyn Perez and Caysen Mitchell run wild. Perez got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Mitchell went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits Mitchell has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Brennan O'Neill, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Carlisle County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
The victory made it two in a row for Carlisle County and bumps their season record up to 10-8. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for St. Mary, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 14-3.
St. Mary took their victory against Carlisle County in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 6-0 score. Do the Vikings have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Comets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
