Baseball Recap: Apollo Has No Trouble Against Copper Canyon

Apollo never let their opponents score on Friday. They put the hurt on the Copper Canyon Aztecs with a sharp 10-0 win. Considering the Hawks have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Rey Garcia made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in February. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3.

In other batting news, Apollo got a big performance out of Isaiah Mendoza, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. Those two hits gave Mendoza a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jesus Beltran, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Apollo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .680. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Apollo has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. With the loss, Copper Canyon broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-4-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Apollo will venture away from home to take on Valley Vista at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Apollo's pitchers better be ready for this one: Valley Vista has averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Copper Canyon, they are taking a road trip to face off against Sierra Linda at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Copper Canyon is facing Sierra Linda at the right time seeing as Sierra Linda is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
