West Potomac is 1-9 against Lake Braddock since March of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Wolverines will be playing at home against the Bruins at 6:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
West Potomac is headed into Monday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Friday. They fell 7-3 to Fairfax. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Austin Dean was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, Banks Holman was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Lake Braddock was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of Alexandria City. That's two games in a row now that the Bruins have lost by just one run.
Beau Padgett was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up five earned runs off five hits.
On the hitting side, Lake Braddock saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was CJ Prentiss, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one double. Another was Henry Mahns, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Lake Braddock now has a losing record of 9-10. As for West Potomac, their loss dropped their record down to 7-9.
West Potomac came out on top in a nail-biter against Lake Braddock in their previous meeting back in April, sneaking past 5-4. Will the Wolverines repeat their success, or do the Bruins have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
