Even though the Hoke County Bucks have not done well against the Pinecrest Patriots recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Hoke County snuck past Pinecrest with a 54-50 victory. The win made it back-to-back wins for Hoke County.
It was another big night for Jaylen Sturdivant, who scored 26 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Braydon O.d mckoy, who scored ten points.
Despite the loss, Pinecrest still got an impressive performance from Elijah Melton, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Melton hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Zymire Spencer, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Even though they lost, Pinecrest smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hoke County only pulled down seven offensive rebounds.
Hoke County has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. As for Pinecrest, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hoke County on the road again on Friday and play against Scotland at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. As for Pinecrest, they will square off against Union Pines at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Union Pines focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Friday.
