The Lake Mary Prep Griffins will take on the Master's Academy Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Lake Mary Prep walked away with it. They blew past Four Corners, posting a 46-16 victory on the road. Winning may never get old, but Lake Mary Prep sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.
Lake Mary Prep's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Crete Emerton, who threw for 132 yards and three touchdowns on only eight passes, and Wade Brashears, who rushed for 157 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries. Brashears has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last five times he's played. Ian Alridge got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Master's Academy faced Sarasota Christian in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Master's Academy claimed a resounding 54-20 victory over Sarasota Christian at home. Master's Academy's victory was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Master's Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Caleb Cotton, who threw for 258 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.2 yards per attempt, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Edison Blunt was another key contributor, picking up 164 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Lake Mary Prep to 9-2 and Master's Academy to 10-0.
Lake Mary Prep might still be hurting after the 36-12 loss they got from Master's Academy in their previous meeting back in September. Can Lake Mary Prep avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
