After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Pinkston, the Newman International Academy Warriors were happy to have found some success on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past UME Preparatory Academy 52-49. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Newman International Academy also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2022.
Several EAGLES players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was William Barnes, who scored 21 points. The matchup was Barnes' eighth in a row with at least ten points. Ben Stevens was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with ten rebounds.
The victory got Newman International Academy back to even at 5-5. As for UME Preparatory Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-6 record this season.
Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Newman International Academy the next time they take the court. UME Preparatory Academy will head out to face Newman International Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, while Newman International Academy will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on January 2, 2024.
