Mapleton has gone a perfect 10-0 against Monroeville recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Mounties will be playing in front of their home fans against the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Mapleton's favor as the squad sits on seven straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Monroeville has been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road also dating back to last season.
Last Thursday, Mapleton got the win against Oberlin by a conclusive 11-2.
Tyson Welch made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Welch was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gabe Wrobleski, who scored three runs and stole five bases while going 3-for-3. Landin Sanders was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Mapleton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oberlin only posted an OBP of .222.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 13 runs the game before, Monroeville was a bit more limited in their game on Monday. They fell just short of Buckeye Central by a score of 2-1. The loss put an end to the Eagles' undefeated start to the season.
Monroeville saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Reid Wasserman, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base. Wasserman is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.
Having lost for the first time this season, Monroeville fell to 2-1. As for Mapleton, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Mapleton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Monroeville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Mapleton's way against Monroeville in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Mapleton made off with a 9-1 victory. Do the Mounties have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
