For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Mount St. Mary Academy and Mount Mercy Academy meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Thunder were the clear victors by an 18-2 margin over the Magic. While the Thunder didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-7), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Isabella Kilonsky made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Claire Gaulin was incredible, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Kennedy Merriman was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Mount St. Mary Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .653. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mount Mercy Academy only posted an OBP of .174.

Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.8 runs over those games. As for Mount St. Mary Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.
Both St. Mary's and Mount St. Mary Academy just can't seem to miss. The Lancers have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. However, it's not like Mount St. Mary Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
St. Mary's was able to grind out a solid win over Mount St. Mary Academy when the teams last played back in April, winning 7-3. Will the Lancers repeat their success, or do the Thunder have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
