Basketball Game Preview: Green Canyon Wolves vs. Fremont Silverwolves

The Green Canyon Wolves will wrap up 2024 with a road trip to face off against the Fremont Silverwolves at 11:45 a.m. on Friday.

Green Canyon is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Mountain Crest on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Green Canyon was beaten by Mountain Crest 67-40. The Wolves haven't had much luck with the Mustangs recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.

Despite the loss, Green Canyon had strong showings from Talyssa Nelson, who posted 11 points, and Mya Hinds, who had 13 points and seven rebounds. Hinds has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Claire Brown, who put up five points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Green Canyon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in eight consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Fremont came tearing into Friday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They really took it to the Mustangs for the full four quarters, racking up a 65-36 victory. With the Silverwolves ahead 41-11 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Fremont's win bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Green Canyon, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-6.

Green Canyon won a matchup that couldn't have been any closer when the teams last played back in December of 2023, slipping by Fremont 45-44. The rematch might be a little tougher for Green Canyon since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
