Providence Day is 2-8 against Cannon since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Chargers will challenge the Cougars at 4:30 p.m. Providence Day will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Providence Day turned things around against Charlotte Country Day School on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Buccaneers an 8-0 shutout. The Chargers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by eight runs or more this season.

Rachel Lyons made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Audrey Glosson, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last seven games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Elizabeth Tebbit, who earned one run and two stolen bases.
Meanwhile, Cannon might've scored the first runs on Tuesday, but it was Charlotte Latin who claimed the real prize. The Cougars fell just short of the Hawks by a score of 5-4. The Cougars' loss signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.
Cannon saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addie Hartz, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Cannon's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 11-6-1. As for Providence Day, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Providence Day has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .489. However, it's not like Cannon struggles in that department as they've averaged .441. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Providence Day couldn't quite get it done against Cannon in their previous meeting two weeks ago as they fell 6-1. Can the Chargers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
