The Perry Central Commodores will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the South Spencer Rebels at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.
Perry Central is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against South Central. The Commodores were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over the Rebels on Tuesday. The Commodores not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since May 12, 2025 (when they won 11-4).
Dylan Mullis and Zac Mitchell made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Mullis pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Mitchell tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2025. At bat, Mullis got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs, while Mitchell got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Owen Hubert was excellent, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2025.
Meanwhile, South Spencer gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Cannelton with a sharp 41-1 win.
Like Perry Central, South Spencer also got a great game from a two-way player: Beau Heck. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Heck was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in six of his seven plate appearances with three runs and three RBI.
In other batting news, Bryer Coomes was a standout: he got on base in five of his six plate appearances with five runs and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Logan Trone, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
South Spencer always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .714. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cannelton only posted an OBP of .111.
Perry Central couldn't quite finish off South Spencer when the teams last played back in April of 2025 and fell 8-6. Will the Commodores have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
