The Shelby Golden Lions had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 56.3 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Bessemer City 64-0 at home. The result was nothing new for Shelby, who have now won five contests by 30 points or more so far this season.
Shelby found their leader in underclassman Lan Farmer, who threw for 241 yards and five touchdowns on only 19 passes. Farmer is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last six games he's played. Izay Bridges was another key contributor, picking up 128 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Shelby's victory was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 5-3. They've been dominating across those matchups too: they took their wins by an average of 50 points. As for Bessemer City, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-5.
Shelby will head out on the road to face off against East Gaston at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. East Gaston has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 161 points over their last three matches. The Yellow Jackets will have plenty of time to ponder what went wrong as they've got a bye scheduled next week. After, they'll take on Cherryville at 7:30 p.m. on October 27th.
