Having just played yesterday, the Pikeville Panthers will get right back to it and host the Southwestern Warriors at 5:30 p.m. on December 29th. Pikeville will be looking to keep their 13-game home win streak (dating back to last season) alive.
On Thursday, Pikeville took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 75-30 victory over Mason County. Given Pikeville's advantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked third, while Mason County is ranked 65th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Southwestern aren't just finding sucess at home, as their game on Thursday extended their overall winning streak to three. It was close, but they capped 2023 with a 48-45 victory over Elizabethtown.
Southwestern's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kinsley Molden, who scored 17 points along with three steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which Molden has scored at least 25% of Southwestern's points. Jaelyn Dye was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with eight rebounds.
Pikeville's victory bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Southwestern, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season.
