The Viewmont Vikings will be playing at home against the Clearfield Falcons at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Viewmont knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four games -- so hopefully Clearfield likes a good challenge.
Viewmont posted their biggest win since December 8, 2023 on Friday. They claimed a resounding 57-26 win over Bonneville on the road. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 43-11.
Viewmont relied on the efforts of Mary Carr, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds, and Aubrey Mulitalo, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kristina Gunnell, who scored seven points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Clearfield has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. The game between Clearfield and Box Elder wasn't particularly close, with Clearfield falling 61-44. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Clearfield in their matchups with Box Elder: they've now lost three in a row.
Despite the loss, Clearfield saw an underclassman step up: Isabelle Wyaskett scored 14 points along with seven steals. Wyaskett is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Xiyah Yarbrough, who scored 13 points along with four steals.
Clearfield struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Viewmont pushed their record up to 10-5 with that victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.6 points per game. As for Clearfield, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-3.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Viewmont hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 54.5 points per game. However, it's not like Clearfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 51.1 points per game. The only thing between Viewmont and another offensive beatdown is Clearfield. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Viewmont was able to grind out a solid victory over Clearfield when the teams last played back in December of 2020, winning 43-31. Will Viewmont repeat their success, or does Clearfield have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
