The Scarborough Red Storm will challenge the Windham Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The timing isn't great for Scarborough: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while Windham has snatched up eight consecutive wins on the road dating back to last season.
Scarborough is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Falmouth an 18-0 shutout on Saturday. With that win, the Red Storm brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.
Scarlett Floyd was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Floyd was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Asa Howe, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those doubles marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Giuiliana Giftos, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Scarborough always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .645. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last match, Windham made sure to put some runs up on the board against Thornton Academy on Friday. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Trojans. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won five in a row.
Like Scarborough, Windham also got a great game from a two-way player: Kennedy Kimball. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out ten over 4.2 innings pitched. Kimball has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, Chloe Edwards was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Stella Jarvais was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Windham's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Scarborough, their victory bumped their record up to 3-6.
Scarborough couldn't quite get it done against Windham in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 5-0. Can the Red Storm avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
