Football Recap: Benjamin Staheli Key Part of Team Effort in Skyhawks Win

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Salem Hills ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Timpanogos Timberwolves, sneaking past 23-20. That's more bragging rights for the Skyhawks, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Salem Hills' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Benjamin Staheli, who rushed for 78 yards and one TD on only 11 carries, and also picked up 40 receiving yards. Staheli was even better on defense, making 11 total tackles and defending two passes in addition to snagging an interception. Ryder Hales was another key player, having thrown for 261 yards and onetouchdown.

Salem Hills didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Timpanogos to a completion percentage of just 38.5%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from four players: Staheli, Austin Hicks, Ty McBride, and Maddox Haskell, who each logged two passes deflected. Salem Hills wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 60.6%.

Salem Hills' defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. In that department, Steven Taylor was the leader with two. Salem Hills got some further help from Peyton Higginson: he made 11 total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defended one pass.

Timpanogos' loss came despite strong showings from Logan Holloway and Donovan Holloway. Logan rushed for 70 yards and one touchdown, while Donovan rushed for 78 yards and one score.

The victory made it two in a row for Salem Hills and bumps their season record up to 3-1. As for Timpanogos, they now have a losing record of 2-3.

Salem Hills wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 49-25 defeat against Provo on the 19th. As for Timpanogos, they have also already played their next contest, a 68-40 win against Uintah on the 19th.
