The Leander Lions will head out on the road to face off against the A&M Consolidated Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Leander is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.
Two Thursdays ago, Leander had to suffer through a rough 52-21 loss at the hands of Georgetown. While losing is never fun, Leander can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 716th, while Georgetown is ranked 167th).
Despite their defeat, Leander saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Zane Wooldridge, who picked up 77 receiving yards and a touchdown, was perhaps the best of all.
Meanwhile, everything came up roses for A&M Consolidated on the road against Hendrickson two Fridays ago as the team secured a 42-3 victory. The victory made it back-to-back wins for A&M Consolidated.
Tyler Poling was the offensive standout of the match as he threw for 211 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes. Trace Meadows - 6'1 198 - 4.59 also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Leander's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 1-5. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 5-1 College Station and 5-2 Bastrop (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 63.7% over those games). As for A&M Consolidated, their win two Fridays ago bumped their record up to 4-2.
Leander suffered a grim 39-15 defeat to A&M Consolidated in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Can Leander avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
