Wausau West has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Stevens Point Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Wausau West scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They blew past Merrill 84-62. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Wausau West has posted since December 12, 2023.
Wausau West can attribute much of their success to Griffin Lange, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and two steals, and Brett Butalla, who scored 19 points along with six assists and two steals. That's the first time this season that Lange scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Lucas Hager, who scored 16 points.
Meanwhile, Stevens Point didn't have too much trouble with Waunakee on the road on Tuesday as they won 57-43. The win made it back-to-back wins for Stevens Point.
Wausau West is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. As for Stevens Point, their victory bumped their record up to 15-1.
Wausau West lost to Stevens Point on the road by a decisive 46-32 margin in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Can Wausau West avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
