Crimson Cliffs and Desert Hills are an even 4-4 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Mustangs will head out to face off against the Thunder at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Desert Hills will be up against a hot Crimson Cliffs squad: the team just extended their winning streak to five. The Mustangs blew past Hurricane 10-1 on Wednesday.
RYKER TAYLOR looked comfortable as he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits.
On the hitting side, JASON MCARTHUR was a standout: he scored two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season. AUSTIN SMITH was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, Desert Hills faced Dixie in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Thunder were the clear victors by a 15-5 margin over the Flyers. The result was nothing new for the Thunder, who have now won nine contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Desert Hills got a massive performance out of Andrew Wilson, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with six RBI and two doubles. Those five hits gave Wilson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Haigen Reed, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Desert Hills kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dixie only managed eight hits.
Desert Hills' victory was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games. As for Crimson Cliffs, their record is now 10-4.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Crimson Cliffs hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Desert Hills struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.1 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Crimson Cliffs might still be hurting after the 13-5 defeat they got from Desert Hills when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
