Maliyah Alexander spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Morgan Clark, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Natalie Johnson was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run.
Meanwhile, West Cabarrus came up short against A.L. Brown on Tuesday, falling 9-3. The defeat continues a trend for the Wolverines in their meetings with the Wonders: they've now lost three in a row.
Cadyn Ready was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Another player making a difference was Kamryn Weaks, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Independence's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.6 runs on average over those games. As for West Cabarrus, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.
West Cabarrus' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Independence has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. It's a different story for West Cabarrus, though, as they've been averaging 9.3 hits. Given Independence's sizable advantage in that area, the Wolverines will need to find a way to close that gap.
