Baseball Recap: Atlantic Christian Find Success

Atlantic Christian took a 15-run loss the last time they faced off against King's Christian, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Cougars sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over the Knights on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cougars have posted since May 28, 2024.

Luke Odell and Ethan Costello made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Odell tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Costello struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits (and not a single walk). He has become a key player for Atlantic Christian: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-4 otherwise. At the plate, Odell scored a run while going 1-for-3, while Costello scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Charlie Costello, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run and two runs. Atlantic Christian is undefeated when Costello posts two or more runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Seth Phillips, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

Atlantic Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as King's Christian only posted an OBP of .371.

Atlantic Christian has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for King's Christian, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-4.

Looking ahead, Atlantic Christian will take on Atlantic County Institute of Tech at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for King's Christian, they will challenge Calvary Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
