The Wallace Wildcats will face off against the Maxwell Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Wallace is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
Wallace suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Saturday. They were outmatched by Hitchcock County on the road and fell 77-40.
Wallace's loss came about despite a quality game from Matt Lungrin, who scored 26 points. That was a full 65% of Wallace's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, Maxwell scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They blew past Wauneta-Palisade 65-31 at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Maxwell has posted yet this season.
Maxwell can attribute much of their success to Addison Tracy, who scored 12 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Tracy has scored all season. Tyce Cumming was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Wallace has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season. As for Maxwell, their victory bumped their record up to 3-12.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Wallace have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 22.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Maxwell struggles in that department as they've been averaging 24.3 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Wallace came up short against Maxwell when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 55-43. Can Wallace avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
