Stefon Diggs scored on game's first play to lead No. 7
Our Lady of Good Counsel (Olney, Md.) to a 42-0 win over Gonzaga on Saturday.
According to the Washington Post, about 4,500 fans showed at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis and Good Counsel finished its first unbeaten season in school history while winning its third straight Washington Catholic Athletic Conference title.
Diggs,
the No. 18 recruit in the country according to MaxPreps/CBS recruiting expert Tom Lemming, scored on a 70-yard run on the game's first play. That set the tone for this lopsided affair.
"I didn't expect (a rout) so much," Diggs told the Post. "I wanted it to be as high (a margin) as possible."
This one was never in doubt as Good Counsel led 35-0 with three minutes left in the first half. The rest of the game was played with a running clock.
This was the second straight win for Good Counsel over Gonzaga (8-4) this season. It won the first meeting 49-7 on Sept. 24.
