The Bermudian Springs Eagles will face off against the Wyomissing Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Bermudian Springs is coming into the contest hot, having won their last 17 games.
On May 1st, Bermudian Springs made easy work of York County Tech and carried off a 9-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won 13 games by six runs or more so far this season.
Skyler Gentzler tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lane Hubbard, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Brayden Heller was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, Wyomissing extended their postseason success on Monday against Kutztown. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 13-12 victory over the Cougars. Wyomissing's win was all the more impressive since the Cougars were averaging only 3.45 runs allowed on the season.
Noah Rauenzahn was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Rauenzahn was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Zander Westwood was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Teddy White, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
Wyomissing kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matchups.
Bermudian Springs' victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.1 runs over those games. As for Wyomissing, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season.
Thursday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Bermudian Springs has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .451. However, it's not like Wyomissing struggles in that department as they've averaged .456. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
