After flying high against Durham Academy  last Tuesday, St. Mary came back down to earth. The St. Mary's Saints lost  13-3 to the Cary Academy Chargers on Friday. St. Mary's has not had much luck with Cary Academy recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.

 On Cary Academy's side,  Mirella DiGiulio made a splash no matter where she played. She  didn't allow a single  earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. DiGiulio has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't  tossed less than nine  strikeouts in three consecutive pitching appearances. DiGiulio was also big at the plate,  going 2-for-4 with four  RBI, a  stolen base,  and a  run.
 In other batting news,  Raya Jung and  Serena Patel did most of the damage at the plate:  Jung  scored two  runs and  stole a base while going 1-for-3, while  Patel  scored two  runs while going 3-for-3.  Skyler Jayasooriya was another key contributor,  scoring two  runs and  stealing two bases while going 1-for-2.
 St. Mary's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Cary Academy, their victory  ended  a  three-game drought at home  and  bumped them up to 5-6.
 The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: St. Mary's beat Cary Academy by a score of  8-4.
