Basketball Recap: Monacan Victorious

Monacan came tearing into Wednesday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.5 points) and they left with even more momentum. They slipped by the Huguenot Falcons 58-57. That's more bragging rights for the Chiefs, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Leading Monacan to victory were Promyse Dent and Amare Cooper. Dent went 7 for 13 on his way to 17 points and eight rebounds, while Cooper went 6 of 14 en route to 16 points along with seven boards and four steals. The contest was Cooper's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jayden Nichols, who posted four points.

Despite the loss, Huguenot still got an impressive performance from Trevion Brown, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 11 boards. The dominant performance gave Brown a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaemon Smith, who had 15 points and four steals.

Monacan pushed their record up to 8-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.3 points per game. As for Huguenot, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.

Monacan has already played their next game, a 93-68 defeat against L.C. Bird on the 17th. As for Huguenot, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 55-34 loss against Cosby on the 17th.
