Harleton is 0-3 against Overton since February of 2018 but things could change on Tuesday. The Harleton Wildcats will be playing at home against the Overton Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Harleton sitting on four straight wins and Overton on five.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Wildcats on Friday. Harleton put the hurt on Waskom with a sharp 17-1 victory.
The team relied heavily on Maddi King, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zoey Ring, who scored two runs while going 1-for-4.
Harleton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Waskom only posted an OBP of .294.
Meanwhile, while Overton put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Carlisle. Overton was the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over Carlisle. Considering the Mustangs have won six games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Bryleigh Nelson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Nelson was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off four doubles, two stolen bases, and four RBI while going 4-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played.
In other batting news, Overton let Anna Perkins and Chelsea Jordan run wild. Perkins went 3-for-4 with three doubles, four RBI, and one run, while Jordan went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Halle Mayfield was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Overton's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-8-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Harleton, their victory bumped their record up to 4-11.
Tuesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Harleton has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .443. However, it's not like Overton struggles in that department as they've averaged .528. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Harleton might still be hurting after the 10-1 defeat they got from Overton when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Will Harleton have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
