While Ripon Christian didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-7), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against the Mesa Verde Mavericks on Friday as they made off with a 40-14 victory. Given the Knights' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 272nd, while the Mavericks are ranked 752nd) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Amos Cady went supernova, picking up 26 receiving yards and two scores, while also rushing for 55 yards on only six carries. That's the most receiving touchdowns he has posted since back in September of 2024. Another player making a difference was Mason Tameling, who threw for 94 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 83.3% of his passes.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Ripon Christian was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 270 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Another reason for the win was Ripon Christian's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Blake Stuit, Chase Bunnell, and Patrick Cory, who each picked up one sack apiece.

When it comes to explaining why Mesa Verde lost, don't look at Cesar Granados. Despite the final result, he rushed for 73 yards and one touchdown.
