Memphis Central and Southwind are an even 3-3 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. The Warriors will venture away from home to challenge the Jaguars at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
On Thursday, Memphis Central didn't have quite enough to beat Harding Academy and fell 5-4.
Memphis Central saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joshua Hollowell, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Southwind). They put the hurt on Overton with a sharp 16-6 win on Thursday. Winning may never get old, but the Jaguars sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Christian Coleman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Southwind got a massive performance out of Muhammad Diallo, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two hits gave Diallo a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tyrez Taylor, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Southwind kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Southwind pushed their record up to 11-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Memphis Central, their loss dropped their record down to 16-5.
Everything went Memphis Central's way against Southwind when the teams last played back in March, as Memphis Central made off with a 12-4 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
