The Fitch Falcons are taking a road trip to face off against the Montville Wolves at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Fitch's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Montville's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Fitch's last matchup with Waterford could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's matchup on Sunday. The Falcons came up short against the Lancers, falling 9-2. The Falcons have struggled against the Lancers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.
Fitch saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Katie MacPherson, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Montville ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Old Lyme 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Wolves have posted since April 29th.
Abby Daniewicz made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over eight innings while giving up six earned runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, Alanna Noonan was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one double. Michalina Anton-Stavens also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Montville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Montville pushed their record up to 11-8 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Fitch, their loss dropped their record down to 10-6.
Fitch couldn't quite get it done against Montville in their previous matchup back in May of 2021 as they fell 4-1. Can the Falcons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
