Softball Recap: Addison Dent Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Stonebridge

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, Peninsula Catholic was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the StoneBridge Cavaliers a 16-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won six contests by ten runs or more so far this season.

Quinn Freakley made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Addison Dent was a standout: she scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. Ava O'Shaughnessy-Tong was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

Peninsula Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .450. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Peninsula Catholic's win bumped their record up to 8-4. As for StoneBridge, they dropped their record down to 0-3 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Peninsula Catholic will challenge Flint Hill at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for StoneBridge, they will take on Broadwater Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
