Deming is 0-10 against Mayfield since January of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Deming Wildcats will head out on the road to challenge the Mayfield Trojans at 7:00 p.m. Deming will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps New Mexico Rankings (they are ranked 84th, while Mayfield is ranked ninth).
Deming scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Saturday. They took their game on the road with ease, bagging a 66-20 victory over Hatch Valley. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Deming has posted since December 8, 2023.
Meanwhile, Mayfield stacked a fourth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Saturday. They were the clear victor by a 49-29 margin over Roswell.
Jazlene Ruiz was her usual excellent self, scoring 21 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. Ruiz is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lorrena Viarreal, who scored six points along with eight assists and six rebounds.
The win makes it two in a row for Deming and bumps their season record up to 6-8. As for Mayfield, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season.
Deming suffered a grim 63-37 defeat to Mayfield in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Mayfield's Ceanna Mckines, who scored 16 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. Now that Deming knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? There's only one way to find out.
