Wood River has been on the road for two straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on The Fillmore Central Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Wood River will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 116th, while Fillmore Central is ranked 33rd).
Wood River fell victim to Chase County's stalwart defense on Friday and couldn't make it onto the board. They had to suffer through a rough 47-0 loss at the hands of the Longhorns.
Meanwhile, Fillmore Central put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their undefeated season alive. They didn't even let St. Cecilia onto the board and left with a 14-0 victory.
Fillmore Central's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Trevor Roach led the charge by rushing for 139 yards.
Wood River's loss was their sixth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 6-2 St. Cecilia and 7-3 Fillmore Central (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 61.7% over those games). As for Fillmore Central, their win on Friday bumped their record up to 8-0.
Wood River was taken down by Fillmore Central 55-12 when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Will Wood River have more luck at home instead of on the road?
