The Dougherty Trojans have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three contests by 28 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat McIntosh County Academy 71-38 on the road. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest victory Dougherty has managed all season.
Dougherty's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Markelle Jones, who scored 20 points. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaion Burns, who scored 11 points along with seven assists and six rebounds.
The victory (which was Dougherty's fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.5 points per game. As for McIntosh County Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.
Dougherty is on the road again on Wednesday and play against Jenkins at 4:00 p.m. on December 20th. Jenkins will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Georgia Rankings (they are ranked 181st, while Dougherty is ranked 39th). As for McIntosh County Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Monroe at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Monroe is on a three-game streak of home wins, McIntosh County Academy a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
