If the Steward Spartans were feeling good off their 58-38 takedown of the Morristown-Hamblen West Trojans on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Steward fell 71-61 to Bearden on Friday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on Thursday (58), Steward still had to take the loss.
Despite the defeat, Steward saw an underclassman step up: Sanai Green dropped a double-double on 19 points and 15 rebounds. The game was Green's tenth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella grace Saunders, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds.
Steward has fallen quite a ways from their 23-10 record last season and are now at 3-7. As for Bearden, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 12-0.
Steward will be playing at home against St. Catherine's at 2:15 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Virginia (St. Catherine's is ranked 110th, while Steward is ranked 118th). Bearden's road trip will continue as they head out to face Hillgrove at 2:30 p.m. on January 6, 2024.
