Cottondale hasn't had much luck against Wewahitchka recently, but that could start to change on Monday. Cottondale will challenge Wewahitchka at 6:00 p.m. Cottondale will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
If Cottondale beats Wewahitchka with 12 runs on Monday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. Cottondale beat Providence Christian on Friday by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 12-2. With that victory, the Hornets brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.
Marley Green was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Green was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Maycee Griffin was excellent, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Paige Carter was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Cottondale always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last six times Wewahitchka and Port St. Joe have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Friday. Wewahitchka came up short against Port St. Joe, falling 11-1. The Gators haven't had much luck with the Tiger Sharks recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Wewahitchka saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lauren Brant, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Cottondale's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-3. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Wewahitchka, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-11.
Cottondale might still be hurting after the 15-0 loss they got from Wewahitchka in their previous matchup back in April of 2017. Can Cottondale avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
