Modoc hasn't had much luck against Weed recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Modoc Braves will square off against the Weed Cougars at 8:30 p.m. Modoc is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.1 points per game this season.
Last Friday, Modoc was able to grind out a solid win over Trinity, taking the game 53-46.
Adin Benson went supernova for Modoc, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 11 boards. Chris Guasp was another key player, putting up nine points.
Meanwhile, Weed entered their tilt with Etna on Tuesday with nine consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with ten. They claimed a resounding 67-40 victory over the Lions. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 368th, while the Lions are ranked 1113th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Modoc better keep an eye on Jaxon King. He was instrumental in Weed's win, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Maddox Mize, who posted nine points along with five boards and three steals.
Weed smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in ten consecutive matches.
Weed has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 16 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.9 points per game. As for Modoc, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-11.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Modoc has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 36.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Weed struggles in that department as they've been averaging 37.9 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Modoc lost to Weed on the road by a decisive 81-62 margin in their previous meeting two weeks ago. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Weed's Marcus Horton, who went 11 for 16 on his way to 27 points and five assists. Now that Modoc knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
