Liberty Christian is preparing for their first conference matchup of the season on Monday. They will hit the road for the first time this season to face off against the Greenwood Christian Academy Cougars at 5:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, Liberty Christian earned a 21-16 win over Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter. That's two games straight that the Lions have won by exactly five runs.
The team relied heavily on Anna Chappell, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with five stolen bases, four runs, and four RBI. Those five stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Avari Stanley was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Greenwood Christian Academy). Everything went their way against Indianapolis Shortridge on Saturday as they made off with a 23-5 victory. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Blue Devils: they've now won six in a row.
Alexus Kieninger and Kaylee Edgar were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Kieninger tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Edgar pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That hit was her first of the season. At the plate, Kieninger scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances, while Edgar scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Sarai Gabrielle Robertson was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Elle Schnake, who scored four runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Greenwood Christian Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .756. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Liberty Christian has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 14.5 runs this season. As for Greenwood Christian Academy, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
Liberty Christian suffered a grim 15-2 defeat to Greenwood Christian Academy when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
