Trenton is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They never let Dixie County get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won 13 contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Jackson Lee was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Pierson Weatherilt was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Trenton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Williston came out on top against Marathon on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run seventh inning. The Mighty Red Devils walked away with a 9-4 win over the Dolphins.
Jacob Hassell looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Harlan Cole, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Williston's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 7-11 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Will Conquest, who went 1-for-3 with two runs.
Williston's victory bumped their record up to 18-11. As for Trenton, their win bumped their record up to 20-5.
Williston's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Trenton has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Williston, though, as they've been averaging only 4.1 strikeouts. Will Trenton keep running through batters, or will the Mighty Red Devils buck the trend?
Trenton got the 'W' when the teams last played back in April against Williston by a conclusive 12-3 score. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Mighty Red Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
