Baseball Recap: Morenci Takes a Loss

Morenci was the 5-2 winner over Pima when they last played one another back in March, but their luck changed this time around. The Wildcats fell just short of the Roughriders by a score of 8-7 on Monday.

Morenci got a massive performance out of Christopher Lopez, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. The Wildcats are 6-2 when Lopez posts two or more runs, but 2-11 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Shane Seballos, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.

Morenci has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-13 record this season. As for Pima, they moved to 4-7-1 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Morenci will face off against Santa Rita at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats are facing the Eagles at the right time seeing as the Eagles are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Pima, they will challenge Gilbert Classical Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Spartans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.67 runs per game on average), something the Roughriders will no doubt try to take advantage of.
